His first contact with the game of golf was in 1960, at the age of 12, when he was a Caddy at the Albenz Golf Club. In 1966, thanks to his outstanding achievements during tournaments reserved for the Caddy category, he took part in the Aspiring Student Assistant Course in Rome, where he obtained the title.

In 1968, he was a tenured Assistant Instructor at the Trieste Golf Club, working alongside renowned golf personalities such as "John Jacobs". In the 1970s, together with his friend / instructor Dino Canonica, he moved to Turin and the Stupiniggi Golf Club, where he stayed for a couple of years, obtaining his National Instructor diploma from the Italian Golf Federation. In 1972 he returned to his homeland, taking apposition at the La Rossera Golf Club, where he remained for 10 years.

He came to the Gardagolf Country Club as a tenured Instructor in 1986. In the meantime, he coached the Lombardy Region representative youth team, with the Italian Golf Federation referring him for the role of Federal coach. He was promoted to Federal "coach" by the Italian National Amateur Golf Team.

Franco is considered one of Italy’s historical golf instructors. Among his many students, he has coached champions of national and international fame, including: Massimo Florioli, Veronica Zorzi, his son Andrea Maestroni, Daniele Nino Bertasio, Silvia Cavalleri, the Bisazza brothers, Matteo Manassero and many others.
